Orkney 2010, Day 4

The Ness of Brodgar has an archaeological excavation happening at the moment, and we get to spend a morning there.  We’re asked not to make public any photos of the trenches as the BBC has the exclusive rights.  Also, whilst I can look at a trench and read it like a map, I’m also painfully aware that to everyone else it looks like just another muddy hole in the ground.  I’m happier than a pig in a trench.  Which is to the say that whilst I’m quite enthusiastically talking shop with the diggers, Tiro is beginning to glaze over*.  The afternoon sees us visit the Churchill Barriers and the evening saw us make the climb up Wideford Hill to watch the sunset.

*Actually, he protests and says he really did quite like it, even the protracted explaination of the Harris Matrix…
