The Seattle Times carries an article today about a (presumably) somewhat hardline Christian minister who’s decided that the practice of yoga equates to ‘paganism’.
Pastor Mark Driscoll, who leads the Mars Hill Church, which the Times calls a ‘megachurch’, described yoga as “absolute paganism”.
He went on to say:
“Should Christians stay away from yoga because of its demonic roots? Totally. Yoga is demonic. If you just sign up for a little yoga class, you’re signing up for a little demon class.”
Clearly a man concerned about demons. And you do have to be careful about demons: they can sneak up you.
So can paganism. That can be really sneaky. Really trip you up when you least expect it, you know? For example, you might be a true-hearted, determined, god-fearing Christian pastor, doing your very best to fight the evils of paganism and keep your flock in line, and completely fail to notice that your church is built on Mars Hill.
