Open Letter from Jay

It is with  some sadness that I feel it is necessary to use this forum to post the following address.

In recent weeks, certain speculations, rumours, hearsay and grapevine activity concerning the Chesterfield group has circulated with regard to future events and its standing within the Derbyshire pagan network.

This has unsettled me and has prompted me to state my feelings and opinions with regard to this matter, openly and honestly.

For those who are unfamiliar or unsure about the nature of recent events, it has been aimed that the Chesterfield group wishes, and is moving to, separate from Derbyshire Pagans.  It has even been suggested that the group is organising exclusive and in some way rival events within the pagan calendar.

I would like to state, here and now, very clearly that this is not the case.

It would be unfair and wrong to give the impression that I express the view of all members within Chesterfield, however, to the best of my knowledge we have always considered ourselves to be part of Derbyshire Pagans and proud to do so.

We have continuously supported, attended and assisted in events within Derbyshire, regardless of who organised them.  Events organised in Chesterfield have been open to all, especially members of the Derbyshire pagan community, and have been attended by people from further afield.  Any events planned for 2011 have been done so by request, which at this point I am unaware of any contradiction.  On a purely personal note, for a number of years I have worked hard to stage various events.  I have freely given my time, finance and holidays from work.  My motivation has always been to accommodate and enrich our pagan community.

My sole reason for organising any event, is to help people celebrate who they are and what they are, without judgement or friction, and celebrate together.

Perhaps energy wasted on gossip should be spent strengthening our community and creating a warm and friendly environment for new members, which once welcomed all of us.

I sincerely hope I have managed to express myself clearly and honestly.  If, however, anyone is still unsure about any of the points raised, I would be more than happy to discuss.

Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,

A Derbyshire and Chesterfield pagan
